Spider-Man survived the initial Kree attacks. During the next few years, he either participated in various resistance effort or remained in hiding, fearing for the safety of his friends and family, or some combination of the two (your choice). Finally, though, his luck ran out and the aliens caught up with him. There was a horrible, bloody battle in which Peter saw his loved ones die. He himself was mortally wounded and left for dead in the ruins of his Queens neighborhood.
As Peter’s consciousness slipped away, he remembers catching a glimpse of Dr. Doom’s familiar metal mask. The voice that went with it was incongruous, though. It was familiar, with no Latverian accent. “Don’t worry, my old friend. I think I can save you,” the voice said.
When Peter woke up, he found himself bonded to the Venom symbiote. Dr. Doom acted and sounded like Spider-Man’s old enemy, but Peter remembered that friendly voice from the ruins of Queens. He also remembered that the Fantastic Four had the Venom symbiote locked up in the their headquarters just before the invasion. So Peter’s not completely sure about Doom’s identity, but he has his suspicions.
As Venom, Peter’s been playing along with Doom’s act for a while now, helping the “Good Doctor” put in motion his plan for a new, supervillian-oriented resistance. Most recently, Doom asked him to break into a Harlem pawn shop and steal a very specific portable CD-stereo system. This mundane operation was interrupted by a large squad of Kree soldiers, though, and Venom ended up captured. For some reason, the Kree also took the boombox…
